Sailing: Singapore Sailor Qualifies For Beijing Olympics

SINGAPORE : Singapore’s Koh Seng Leong has qualified for the laser event in the Beijing Olympics 2008.

The 24-year-old sailor made it in the second and last round of qualifiers held in Australia.

He is now one of the final 40 in the men’s single-handed laser event.

Of this group, 29 qualified in the first round and one was reserved for host country China.

Koh was one of the 157 sailors vying for the last 10 places.

Koh said he would go on a weight loss programme to “prepare for the light wind conditions expected in Qingdao”, which is the Olympic sailing venue.

The final women’s qualifiers for the Laser Radical will take place in Auckland, New Zealand, next month. – CNA/de
